The Same as the Old Song

I haven't done this for awhile but I thought it was about time to throw out some new records.  Most of these are new albums from established artists because fall is the time to release big records.
  • Liz Phair - Somebody's Miracle:  Avoid this at all costs.  Exile in Guyville was a great album but Liz's output has declined with each album to the point I feel she's trying to keep up with the Avrils and Ashleys.
  • Franz Ferdinand - You Could Have It So Much Better:  While I tire of nonpolitical Gang of Four wannabees, FF definitely has the music down.  The new album is concerned with touring and girls and the life of a sudden rock star, but it's damn good for dancing.
  • Fiona Apple - Extraordinary Machine:  If you like Fiona Apple this album will not disappoint.    If you've downloaded the pre-release version, you might be a bit disappointed.  The record label ripped it from Fiona's chosen producer (Jon Brion) and gave it to Mike Elizondo, best known as Dr. Dre's producer.  The songs remain the same but the differences in texture and atmostphere are pronounced.  Get the pre-release version if you can.
  • Big Star - In Space:  To some people this is album is like Led Zeppelin putting out a new album.  Alex Chilton is there which is what most people look for. Two former members of the great powerpop band, The Posies (Ken Stringfellow and Jonathan Auer) have joined the band.  It's good, but not as good as the Big Star of old.
